Emerging Markets Capital is a private mining investing firm based in Hong Kong. We invest primarily in mining equities listed on the TSX and ASX, through both private placements and through the secondary market. Given our geographic location, we help Canadian and Australian companies we invest in to access capital markets in Asia as well as to build strategic relations with the large mining companies and mineral off-takers in Asia. We invest in a mix of pre-discovery, exploration, development and producing companies across jurisdictions but with a strong preference for Canada, Australia, Mexico and South America. We are commodity agnostic, but have a strong preference for precious metals (gold and silver), base metals (copper, zinc andlead[J1] ) and energy minerals (lithium, graphite and HPA).
Emerging Markets Capital also invest directly into exploration properties it controls as well as exploration properties it is developing in JV with Asian partners, including a nickel laterite exploration project in the Philippines and a silver exploration project in Mexico.
Emerging Markets Capital is also a seed investor in Intercontinental Energy, a visionary company based in Hong Kong developing a portfolio of large renewable energy projects to transmit electricity across countries via sub-sea cable.
Jorge is originally from Mexico. He holds a Bachelor's degree from the State University of New York and an MBA in Finance from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Jorge previously worked for Frontier Securities, a Mongolian based investment advisory and securities brokerage where he was part of the special investments team in the natural resources division, advising and capital raising for mining companies with projects in Mongolia looking for investors internationally.
He is currently a Managing Director of Emerging Markets Capital, an M&A Advisory firm based in Hong Kong focusing on mining transactions between China and Latin America. He has advised numerous Chinese companies that are looking to acquire Gold, Iron Ore, Copper, Silver and Potash assets in Latin America.
He has been a speaker at natural resources conferences and is a contributor for mining magazines focusing on Latin America.
Jorge was a founding member of the Mexican Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. He is a Director of Offshore Bunkers Hong Kong, marine fuel trading company based in Hong Kong. He is also an advisor and shareholder of Standard Investment, a Mongolian Investment Bank.
Jorge is fluent in English, Spanish, Hindi and Portuguese and speaks conversational Chinese.
Michael is originally from the UK, he holds a BSc. in Economics from Cardiff University and an MBA from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
He started his career in Wealth Management in London, before joining the Metropolitan Police, where he progressed to be a detective conducting Counter Terrorism Investigations for Scotland Yard's Counter Terrorism Command (SO15).
Michael moved to Hong Kong in 2010 and completed a finance-focused MBA. He then conducted sales in Asia for two western technology firms, before moving into property consultancy and asset management. He has worked on a number of M&A deals and capital raises in Real Estate, Mining and Technology. He manages an Asian focused equity fund for Concord Asset Management and is a director of UK property developer/consultancy London Prime.
Marco has over 7 years of international financial experience including Capital Markets, Venture Capital and Corporate Advisory and is located in Hong Kong since 2013.
Before joining Emerging Markets Capital, Marco spent 5 years at Barclays. In his most recent role there, Marco was accountable for overseeing the Corporate Liability book for Barclays in Portugal. Previous to that he spearheaded Barclays Cash, Derivative and Structured Product Sales and Structuring efforts in Portugal.
The main assets classes included fixed income, currencies, commodities, equities as well as proprietary indices. During this time he had the opportunity to be a speaker at Barclays organized conferences and was a contributor for Economic focused magazines and newspapers.
Before moving to Barclays Marco also worked at the largest Portuguese bank - Millennium BCP - at the Private Banking Division.
Having lived in 3 different continents Marco speaks multiple languages. He is fluent in English, Spanish, French and his mother tongue Portuguese, as well as a conversational Mandarin Chinese.
Marco is a CFA Charter holder, holds an MBA from both Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and London Business School and is a Master in Finance from Nova School of Business and Economics in Lisbon.
Born in Colombia Liliana graduated from architecture and completed her studies in Barcelona where she finished a masters in Urban Culture in 2002 and an MBA in 2003. After completing her MBA, Liliana moved to Hong Kong with her mother who at the time was the Colombian Consul General. In Hong Kong Liliana set up an PR and events company to promote Latin America.
In 2007 Liliana accepted a position with a large international architectural practice, where she was responsible for the firm’s marketing and communications across the Asia region.
Since 2010 she has been working as a key advisor to International Coal Partners, and was instrumental on their acquisition of a coal tenement in Colombia.
Liliana is fluent in English and Spanish.
Mr. McAfee has been extensively involved in private equity, as both a lawyer and an investor since the early 1980s. In addition to his role as Managing Director of GE-APC Technology Fund and Asia Pacific Capital Fund II, he led Asia Pacific Capital in the acquisition of United Artists, the largest theater operating chain in Hong Kong and expanded throughout Greater China. He is GP of the Mongolia Opportunities Fund, one of the first Private Equity Funds being launched in Mongolia.
He has made a series of entertainment, media and technology investments including the first Asian film fund and an online movie reservations system, which produced 40x returns. He co-founded the ChinaVest Group, one of the first funds to enter Greater China and was the General Partner of four funds.
Mr. McAfee launched Coudert Brothers in Singapore and grew the group into the largest international law firm in Asia. Until recently he was also the Chairman of the Main Board Listing Committee and the GEM Listing Committee of the Hong Kong Exchange. Mr. McAfee holds an A.B. from Harvard and a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law.

Mr. Masa Igata, has more than 30 years of professional experience in Asian financial markets. Prior to establishing Frontier Securities in 2007, he had been a Managing Director in charge of Japanese equity sales and investor relations advisory group at Salomon Brother/Citigroup/Nikko Citigroup in Tokyo leading the company to be the most profitable foreign investment bank in Japan for more than the decade.
Mr. Igata has started the initiatives of connecting fund managing industry and top managements of Japanese corporations in 1990’s for the first time and considered to the pioneer of the investor relations industry in Japan.
After leaving the firm in 2004, Mr. Igata became interested in Mongolia’s fast-growing economy, and began to develop close relationships with many Mongolian businesses since then.
Mr. Igata has since invested in Mining, Finance and real estate sector in Japan, Mongolia, Canada and China through his own companies in each region. In addition, with proven expertise on cross-border capital raising, Mr. Igata has been actively promoting Mongolian investment opportunities to foreign investors and advocating capital market’s best practices in Mongolia to ensure and enhance its access to foreign investors through a full range of financial services, corporate access and research.
Hosting Invest Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar and Tokyo is one of the service to facilitate himself and investors to access to the Government and the Business. In addition, he has extensively advised the
Government of Mongolia, several government agencies and major corporate in Mongolia on fund raising, corporate governance and value enhancement. Mr. Igata is a certified member of the Securities Analyst
Association of Japan and director of Prophecy Development which is listed at Toronto Stock Exchange and has significant coal deposits in Mongolia.
Mr. Seade holds a Chemical degree and a Master in Economics taken in Mexico his home country, and a PHD in Economics from Oxford University, served as Senior Advisor for IMF, Deputy Director- General for WTO, Chief Negotiator for Mexico Accession at OECD, Principal Economist in Brazil for the World Bank and held several positions in the academic field.
Currently Mr. Seade seats at a number of positions within the Hong Kong Government, he is a member of the Financial Services Committee, Co-Chair of the Financial Services Strategic Development Working Group and member of the Trade and Industry Advisory Board. Besides being a Senior Advisor for EMC, he also is a member of the Consejo Mexicano de Comercio Exterior (COMCE) and an advisor for KLD Energy Technologies in the US, he has published several research papers on Asia and Latin America economies.
Andrés is originally from Mexico and was one of the first Mexicans to graduate with a B.A. from a Chinese University. Andres also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from a joint program between the National University of Singapore, the JFK School of Government and Harvard University.
Andrés has developed a career in the Mexican Foreign Service for two decades. In 2005 he was an alternate consul for the Consulate General of Mexico in Shanghai and in 2009 he was named acting consul for the Consulate General of Mexico in Hong Kong, a distinction he held until 2011. Andrés is currently a vice-president of COPOWER, which is the largest private oil company in China.
Andrés has spent over two decades in Asia and is fluent in seven different languages, including Mandarin, English and Spanish.
Mrs Forero has over 30 years experience in the public sector in Colombia, having occupied high profile directing roles in different public institutions. In 2003 she was named Consul General of Colombia in Hong Kong, were she worked until 2007. During her tenure as Consul General her focus was to develop the commercial links between the two countries, facilitating foreign investment and business enterprises into Colombia.
On her return to Colombia she co-founded Pro-Asia, a non-profit organization promoting political, commercial, cultural and educational relationships between Colombia and Asian countries. As the Executive Director of Pro-Asia she developed together with the 10 most important universities of the country, an Strategic Relationship Plan between Colombia and Asia; she also assisted with the organization and attended the visit of China’s Vice-president Mr. Xi Jin Ping together with the management of China’s Development Bank.
Ms Forero continues promoting investment opportunities in Colombia in the areas of mining, infrastructure and education, acting as a private advisor to multiple companies in both countries. Thanks to her close ties to the Colombian government she joined the 2012 estate visit of Colombia’s president Mr. Juan Manuel Santos to China, accompanied by the ministries of Transport, Mining, Commerce, Agriculture and External Relations.
