Resource producers spearheaded the sector, with Zijin Mining Group (HKEX: 2899) anchoring the market by executing a blockbuster $2.5 billion USD (approx. HKD 19.5 billion) dual-tranche capital raise—combining a $2 billion convertible bond with a $500 million equity placement—cementing its place as one of the largest follow-on mining transactions in the exchange's history. Alongside Zijin’s massive move, heavyweights like Shandong Gold, Zhaojin Mining, and mid-tier copper explorers aggressively tapped the market, driving total gold and copper-sector financing to an estimated HKD 24 billion. These companies successfully commanded premium valuations, expanding 25% to 35% above historical baselines, by capturing a powerful dual-narrative: safe-haven macroeconomic protection through gold, combined with structural green-tech demand for copper. Investors heavily rewarded this synergy, paying a premium for producers that weaponized their capital for global M&A, acquiring high-grade junior assets with existing infrastructure to fast-track near-term production and secure immediate, high-margin cash flows.
